Past Event
Sketch Night at The Brant Foundation is free of charge and open to artists of all ages and experience levels. Participants are invited to sketch from a professional model in one of the foundation’s gallery spaces which currently houses an exhibition by Steven Shearer. Shearer’s work draws upon a visual lexicon of portraiture and representation of the body, often using found imagery that he collects and archives as source material. Through this process, contemporary imagery is distilled into the tradition of portraiture revealing affinities between various modes of figuration throughout history to the present. This workshop focuses on the dialogue that exists between Shearer’s formal drawings, preparatory sketches and finished paintings and invites participants to explore the same in their own artistic practice.
